Teeth Whitening in Stamford, CT
Dental discoloration is a common issue that affects millions of people worldwide. Various factors, including poor dental hygiene, aging, and certain medications, can cause it. Discolored or yellowing teeth can significantly impact an individual’s self-esteem and confidence.
Professional teeth whitening treatments are an effective and safe solution for people looking to achieve a brighter smile. The treatment involves applying a hydrogen peroxide gel to the teeth and then activating it to release oxygen ions. These ions penetrate the enamel and dentin layers of the teeth and break down the molecular bonds of the stains, resulting in a significantly brighter appearance.
The procedure is performed in-office, and the entire process may take around 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the severity of the staining. Our dentist will first examine the teeth and gums to ensure they are healthy and suitable for the procedure. Then, they will apply the whitening gel to the teeth and use a special light to activate it.
Professional teeth whitening treatments are a safe, effective, and non-invasive way to achieve a brighter smile and restore your confidence.

How is professional teeth whitening performed?
Our office currently offers two different types of professional whitening services: in-office and custom-made trays.
- Professional. These procedures start by covering up vulnerable areas inside the mouth, including the lips and gums, to prevent exposure from the peroxide. Then, we apply a high-concentrate hydrogen peroxide gel directly to the teeth and activate it. You will rest comfortably for a short time until the gel does its work. Then we remove the coverings and rinse the gel away.
- Custom-made trays. We will take a custom mold of your teeth to make clear trays that you take home, along with a whitening gel. These trays will help minimize the risk of whitening gel affecting your gums or mouth and you can whiten your teeth from the comfort of your home. All you have to do is place the whitening gel inside the trays and place the trays in your mouth.

How do I whiten my teeth at home?
If you’re looking for a teeth whitening remedy without coming to the dentist, there are a few simple things you can try at home like brushing with baking soda, use hydrogen peroxide to brush or rinse with on an occasional basis (cut the peroxide in half so you are using a 1.5% solution and not a 3% solution, which is common for over-the-counter), use apple cider vinegar as a brushing or rinsing agent, eat more fruits and vegetables—they are good for your body and your teeth, limit foods that stain your teeth such as soda, coffee and wine, limit your sugar intake and always remember to brush and floss twice a day—it’s still a powerful tool.

How long does professional teeth whitening last?
The duration of professional teeth whitening results varies from person to person and depends on factors such as lifestyle habits and oral hygiene maintenance. Can professional teeth whitening damage enamel?
When performed by a qualified dental professional, professional teeth whitening is considered safe and does not typically damage enamel. However, overuse of whitening products or procedures can lead to temporary tooth sensitivity and, in rare cases, enamel erosion. It’s essential to follow the dentist’s instructions and avoid excessive whitening treatments.
